About Marin Immigration Law

Marin Immigration Law is a growing, fully remote Canadian immigration law firm focused on providing transparent, high-quality, and client-centered legal services. The firm is led by Cedric Marin, who clerked at the Federal Court of Canada and has experience working on matters before the Immigration and Refugee Board.

Our practice covers a wide range of immigration matters, including temporary residence, permanent residence, sponsorships, citizenship, and Federal Court litigation.

In 2026, we are currently hiring two Associate Lawyers to join our team on a full-time, remote basis.

One position is expected to start in late February or early March 2026, and the second position is expected to start in August 2026. Applicants must indicate which position they are applying for and their earliest availability to start.

Firm Values

Transparency is central to our practice. Clients are kept informed at every stage of their file, drafts and submissions are shared, and all documents are provided to clients. We believe in being upfront about timelines, risks, and where a file stands at all times.

Client service is a priority. This includes timely responses to emails, managing client expectations, proactive follow-ups, and genuine care for clients even when they are not actively asking for updates.

Ownership is essential. The ideal candidate takes responsibility for their files, is vigilant about mistakes, addresses issues directly, and is deeply committed to producing high-quality work.

Ethics are paramount in our work. Clients own their documents at all times, and we are transparent and honest about disbursements, billables, and decision-making. We conduct our practice with integrity, fairness, and a constant commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards.

About the Role

This is a full-time Associate Lawyer position, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role is fully remote, however the successful candidate must continue to reside in Canada for the duration of employment.

The firm is committed to supporting the Associate Lawyer’s success through structured mentorship and practical resources. The Associate Lawyer will have access to prior file examples, precedent documents, checklists, and internal templates for common immigration matters.

Regular check-in meetings will be scheduled with Cedric Marin to review files, discuss strategy, and address questions as they arise. Ongoing mentorship is provided, particularly on complex matters, Federal Court timelines, and firm best practices, with the goal of enabling the Associate Lawyer to work efficiently, confidently, and independently over time.

The Lawyer will take client consultations, retain clients, manage files from start to finish, and handle a broad range of immigration matters. These include judicial reviews, Express Entry applications, family sponsorships, study permits, work permits, and citizenship applications.

Within the three months of employment, the Associate Lawyer is expected to independently conduct consultation calls on some matters, retain clients, follow through on required documents, manage checklists, and ensure files move forward efficiently and accurately.

The Associate Lawyer will report directly to Cedric Marin and will work closely with other lawyers, and an office manager/law clerk who will assist with intake, issuing and completing forms, document management, ATIP requests, and administrative support. While administrative support is provided, the Associate Lawyer is still expected to take ownership of files, particularly where urgency or Federal Court deadlines are involved.

While this position does involve judicial review litigation, court appearances are generally rare. The role primarily focuses on written advocacy, legal research, and file preparation rather than regular in-court appearances.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be a lawyer in good standing with a Canadian provincial or territorial law society and demonstrate a strong commitment to ethical practice and professional integrity. Candidates must have been called to the bar and have between zero and five years of post-call experience. Prior experience in immigration law is not required.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada and must reside in Canada for the duration of their employment. The role is fully remote, and candidates must be comfortable working in a remote environment, including using technology and cloud-based practice management systems.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is preferred.
  • Must maintain the highest level of professional and ethical conduct at all times.
  • At this time, we are unable to consider articling students, licensing candidates, or LPP candidates, as we already have an articling student in place. We are also unable to consider RCICs, as this role involves judicial reviews before the Federal Court of Canada.

Compensation and Billing Structure

  • The base annual salary for this position starts at $80,000, with flexibility up to $100,000 depending on experience.
  • There is a minimum billing expectation of $180,000 per year, which translates to approximately $15,000 per month and is reviewed on a quarterly basis.
  • Once the Associate Lawyer reaches $180,000 in collected billables, they will receive 30 percent of all additional collected billings beyond that threshold. Based on current firm volume and procedures, this could translate into an additional $20,000 to $40,000 per year on top of base salary.
  • Once the Associate Lawyer reaches $250,000 in collected billables, they will receive 50 percent of all additional collected billings beyond that threshold.
  • Commission is paid once fees are collected from clients. Commission payments are issued on the 25th day of the following month after reconciliation, while base salary is paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Benefits and Support

  • The position is fully remote and can be performed from anywhere in Canada.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits are provided, starting on the first day of employment.
  • The firm provides a company laptop and desk, coverage of internet and phone expenses, and coverage of required professional expenses, including law society fees and other licensing-related costs.
  • Employees receive three weeks of paid vacation per year, in addition to holidays.
  • Administrative support is provided to allow the Associate Lawyer to focus on substantive legal work and consultations, while still maintaining ownership and accountability over files.

How to Apply

  • Interested candidates must submit their CV or resume by email to careers@marinimmigrationlaw.ca no later than February 1, 2026 for both positions.
  • Applications must include a short written explanation addressing why the applicant wants to practice immigration law.
  • Applicants must clearly indicate which of the two available positions they are applying for and their earliest possible start date.
  • Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
