Katherine Wilson-Smith joined Marin Immigration Law in September 2026 as a research assistant on the firm's genealogy team, where her work is reviewed by the firm's genealogist, Kendra Gaede. She traces multi-generational family lines for clients' citizenship by descent applications, sourcing baptism, birth, marriage and death records in Canada and the United States, and contacting parishes and archives directly when a record cannot be found online.
Katherine studied history at the University of Cambridge before moving to Montreal for a master's degree in History at McGill University. Her master's thesis is on baptisms. Working with county archives in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry in Eastern Ontario, she has collected and analysed data from mid-nineteenth-century parish registers that are not available online, travelling to the archives when needed and following families who emigrated to the United States through American records. She has also worked as an archival research assistant at Dawson College, identifying English and French archival material, and as a teaching assistant in McGill's Modern European History course.
