Terms of use

Last updated: October 2, 2026

1. Agreement

These Terms are an agreement between you and Cedric Marin Immigration Law Professional Corporation ("Marin Immigration Law", "we", "us") about your use of marinimmigrationlaw.ca (the "Website"). By using the Website you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. When you send a message or book a consultation, we will ask you to confirm that acceptance.

2. General information, not legal advice

The Website provides general information about Canadian immigration and citizenship law. It may not reflect the latest changes and is not legal advice. Do not act on it without advice about your own situation.

Using the Website, sending us a message, or booking or attending a consultation does not make us your lawyers on an ongoing basis. A paid consultation is limited to the advice given during that consultation. We act on your matter, for example by preparing or filing an application or tracking deadlines, only after we both sign a Legal Services Agreement.

We advise only on Canadian law. We do not advise on the law of the United States or any other country, including immigration and tax law.

3. Messages, confidentiality and deadlines

Please do not send confidential or urgent information through the contact form or by email before we have agreed to act. We treat information from prospective clients with care, but sending it does not oblige us to act for you, and we may decline. We may use basic details, such as names, to check for conflicts of interest.

Contacting us does not stop or extend any deadline. Immigration and court deadlines can be very short. You remain responsible for meeting them until we confirm in writing that we will act.

4. Processing times, results and reviews

Processing times and consultation availability shown on the Website are estimates as of the date displayed, based on information published by IRCC and on our calendar. They change often. Results described on the Website depend on the facts of each case and do not guarantee a similar outcome. Client reviews reflect individual experiences.

5. Consultations, fees and payments

Consultation fees are shown in Canadian dollars at booking and are paid by card through our booking provider, Calendly, using Stripe. You may reschedule or cancel at no cost up to 24 hours before your appointment. Fees are not refunded for cancellations made less than 24 hours before the appointment or for missed appointments. Where stated, the consultation fee is credited toward a flat-fee retainer. Fees for retained work are governed only by your Legal Services Agreement, and payments for that work are processed by Clio Payments.

6. Acceptable use

You may not use the Website unlawfully, give false information when booking, interfere with the Website's security or operation, or use bots, scrapers or other automated means to copy content or collect data, including to train artificial intelligence models.

7. Intellectual property

The Website's content, including articles, guides and design, belongs to us or our licensors. You may view it, share links to it and print a copy for your own non-commercial use. Any other use needs our written permission. The Law Society of Ontario logo is a trademark of the Law Society of Ontario.

8. Third-party services and links

We use third-party services such as Calendly, Google Meet and Clio. Your use of them is also governed by their terms. We are not responsible for third-party websites we link to.

9. Use of artificial intelligence

We may use AI tools to assist with legal research, drafting and editing. We use them to improve the clarity, structure and accuracy of our work, not to make legal decisions. A lawyer reviews all AI-assisted work. We limit the identifiable information shared with these tools, and our duty of confidentiality under the Law Society of Ontario's Rules of Professional Conduct applies in full. Our Privacy Policy explains which tools we use and how we handle recordings and AI notes. Clients receive a fuller AI clause in their Legal Services Agreement.

10. Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by law, the Website is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, and we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful code.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Website or its content, including indirect, consequential or punitive damages and lost profits. If we are found liable, our total liability relating to the Website is limited to CAD $100.

This section applies to the Website only. It does not limit our professional obligations to clients under a Legal Services Agreement or under the Rules of Professional Conduct, or any liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us and our directors, officers, employees and agents against claims and costs, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your breach of these Terms or misuse of the Website.

13. Governing law and disputes

(a) These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.

(b) If you live in Canada, the courts of Ontario sitting in Ottawa have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about the Website or these Terms. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

(c) If you live outside Canada, including in the United States, any dispute about the Website or these Terms will be resolved by final and binding arbitration before a single arbitrator, seated in Ottawa, Ontario, under Ontario arbitration law. Hearings may be held by video. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in a small claims court, or seek urgent relief from a court to stop misuse of the Website or its content.

(d) To the extent permitted by law, you and we each agree to bring claims only individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative proceeding, and waive any right to a jury trial. If this waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, paragraph (c) does not apply to that claim, and it proceeds only in the courts of Ontario sitting in Ottawa.

(e) Disputes with clients about legal fees are governed by the Legal Services Agreement and the Solicitors Act (Ontario).

14. Age

You must be 18 or older to book a consultation or send us information. A parent or legal guardian may provide information about a minor child for the child's matter.

15. Changes

We may update these Terms by posting a new version with a new date. We will flag material changes on the Website. Changes do not apply to disputes that arose before they were posted.

16. General

If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. We may assign these Terms; you may not without our consent. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement about the Website. If you retain us, your Legal Services Agreement governs our services and prevails over these Terms.

These Terms are available in English and French, and both versions are equally authoritative.
