Our team

Five lawyers, a genealogist and a research team, all working on the same files.

Our lawyers have clerked at the Federal Court, decided claims at the Immigration and Refugee Board, served in Canada's foreign service and worked in the immigration groups of leading national firms. Between us, we work in English, French, Spanish, Hindi and Punjabi.

Kendra Gaede, our genealogist, chairs the Manitoba Genealogical Society's Research Committee, received the Association of Professional Genealogists' 2025 New Professional Scholarship, and knows records from Quebec and Acadia to the Prairies. She leads the researchers who trace your family line and find the records that prove it. They bring real archival experience: Magali Goblot has traced family lines for coroner reports, and Katherine Wilson-Smith is writing her master's thesis in history on baptisms in Ontario.

Before anything goes to IRCC, a lawyer who has not worked on your file reviews it the way an officer would, and Cédric signs off.

2012 to 2016

Cédric Marin, our founder, studies civil law and common law at the University of Ottawa (LL.L., JD).

2017 to 2022

He clerks at the Federal Court of Canada, which reviews immigration decisions, and decides refugee claims and appeals at the Immigration and Refugee Board, Canada's largest independent administrative tribunal. He also works with the United Nations on refugee protection and earns a Master of Laws (LL.M.).

2023

He opens Marin Immigration Law in Ottawa.

2025

Bill C-3 comes into force in December, and many more families with Canadian roots can now claim citizenship. Those claims need both a lawyer and a genealogist.

2026

Four associate lawyers join, along with Kendra Gaede, our in-house genealogist, and a research team. In September, we move into our own office at 280 Albert Street.
