Magali Goblot joined Marin Immigration Law in June 2026 as a research assistant on the firm's genealogy team, working with the firm's genealogist, Kendra Gaede. She finds the records that prove each link in a client's line of descent: the birth or baptism record of the Canadian-born ancestor, the marriage and death records that connect one generation to the next, and the civil registrations of descendants born in the United States. Her files have taken her through Quebec parish registers, Nova Scotia civil registrations and Acadian parish records, Ontario birth registrations, and state records from Massachusetts, Maine and South Dakota. When records disagree on a date of birth, the spelling of a name or a place of death, she traces the discrepancy back to the governing document so that the firm's legal submissions rest on accurate facts.
Magali is completing the joint Bachelor of Civil Law and Juris Doctor (BCL/JD) program at McGill University's Faculty of Law, where she is a Senior Caseworker at the Legal Information Clinic at McGill and Executive French Editor of the McGill Journal of Law and Health. Before law school, she earned a BA in Honours History and Economics at Concordia University. Her award-winning honours thesis was built on coroner's reports held at the Archives nationales in Montreal, and as a research assistant to Professor Eric Reiter she photographed and digitized more than 1,500 coroner's reports from the Montreal and Quebec regions dating from 1862 to 1902.
