Nora Francis joined Marin Immigration Law in October 2026 as a research assistant on the firm's genealogy team, where the work is reviewed by the firm's genealogist, Kendra Gaede. Nora traces each client's line back to the Canadian-born ancestor, sourcing the birth, baptism, marriage and death records that prove every generation. When no baptism, birth or census record can be found, Nora turns to secondary records, such as military service files and draft registrations, to establish a person's birth date, birthplace and parents.
Before joining the firm, Nora was a historical research assistant with the Casualty Identification Program at the Department of National Defence's Directorate of History and Heritage, helping to identify unknown Canadian soldiers from both world wars and the Korean Conflict and writing genealogy reports that traced each soldier's family to living descendants. Nora is completing a Master's in History at the University of Ottawa with the support of a Canada Graduate Research Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), with a major research paper on battle exhaustion among Canada's nursing sisters in the Second World War.
